Morning Message: May 6

In today’s reading we hear that Jesus welcomes the children.  He teaches that children have a special relationship to God and reveal something about God’s Kingdom to us.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

The little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray.  The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”  And he laid his hands on them and went on his way.  Then someone came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”  And Jesus said to him, “If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”  He said to Jesus, “Which ones?”  And Jesus said, “You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; also, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Think about this silently in your heart.  Why do you think Jesus wanted the little children to be brought to him?
In this passage, children are taken as representing those whom the world considers unimportant; similarly the parable of the lost sheep teaches that the least of all in the eyes of the world is as important as the greatest of all in the eyes of Jesus. This reminds us…that…the weaker people are, the more they require our care and concern.
O God, we pray that we might grow in our understanding of your Kingdom.  Help us to trust that although we are young, we can serve you by how we live our lives.  As we move through this day, keep us alert to the many ways your grace seeks entry into our lives. May we respond generously and without delay to your calls.  We ask this in the name of our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
Boys and girls.  Today is National School Nurse Day.  If you happen to see Mrs. Lynn sitting in on one of your classes today, make sure to wish her a happy nurse’s day.
Have a wonderful day!
