Morning Message: May 5

Jesus called himself “son of Man” eighty-one times in the Gospels!  It literally means a “human being.”  Our Church teaches that Jesus is fully God and fully human.

A reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew.

After getting into a boat Jesus crossed the sea and came to his own town.  And just then some people were carrying a paralyzed man lying on a bed.  When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”  Then some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.”  But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?  For which is easier, to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’?  But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—he then said to the paralytic—“Stand up, take your bed and go to your home.”  And he stood up and went to his home.

Think about this silently in your heart.  Jesus often made people feel better.  How can you make someone feel better today?
Boys and girls, this passage focuses on something that is central to Jesus’ way of relating with us. He sees how all of us are in need of forgiveness, and rather than be angry, guilty or aggressive with ourselves and others; he suggests instead that we assume a gentle, forgiving or accepting attitude.  God knows what’s best for us, in fact, God knows what we need before we do!
Loving God, your Son Jesus understood our human needs.  He healed those who were suffering in body, mind, and soul.  Help us to turn to him in our need.  Thank you for your faithfulness to us and to all your people. Help us be a source of consolation to others this day.  Grant us the grace to put your love and grace before all else.  We ask this in his name.  Amen.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
