Morning Message: April 21

This week we hear the stories of Christ’s appearances to his disciples after his Resurrection. The two friends in today’s story don’t recognize him.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.

On the day it was discovered that Jesus’ body was no longer in the tomb, two disciples were going to a village called Emmaus.  Jesus himself came near, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him.   And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk?”  Cleopas answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place?”  He asked them, “What things?”  They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him.  It is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us.  They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find the body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.”

Think about this silently in your heart.  Can we be so absorbed in our own concerns that we miss seeing the holiness in people around us?

·         When we are feeling down and discouraged, when we are sad or mad, sometimes God seems very far away.

·         But the truth is that Jesus never leaves our side. We may not recognize Him always, but He’s always there with us. He’s walking with us all the way. We need to learn to see Him even in our darkest moments.

Loving God, like Jesus’ disciples, we do not always recognize the Lord’s presence.  Help us to see Jesus in one another.  We ask this through our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Boys and girls, today is National Library Workers Day.  It is a day to recognize the valuable contributions library staff make every day to their communities through their hard work and dedication.  So here is a shout out to our librarian, Mrs. Abrams.  Thank you for all you do to help the students at Monsignor Slade find their favorite book, help with research, and make learning and reading so much fun!  Also thank you, Mrs. Abrams, for helping the teachers to find resources when they are planning their lessons.  We are so lucky to have Mrs. Abrams on our staff.  If you have time today, boys and girls, send Mrs. Abrams a little note or an email thanking her for being such a wonderful librarian.

Have a great day!
