Congratulations 2023 Graduates!

The eighth grade class graduated on June 1, 2023, gathering for a final time at Monsignor Slade to celebrate Mass and Commencement.  The ceremony was presided over by Fr. Austin Murphy, Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church.  Following Mass, faculty members, Assistant Principal Slaton, and students’ families proudly looked on as Mrs. Cox presented individual diplomas.  During the ceremony, students’ academic accomplishments and extracurricular commitments were highlighted.

Annually, awards are presented to graduates in recognition of exemplary character and service.  Abigail Anuszewski and Hobart Rogers were co-recipients of the Spirit of Slade award for their loyal and enthusiastic support of their school.  Natalie Hilmer earned the Class of 2023 honor, Student of Character, for embodying integrity, positivity, and compassion.  The Perseverance award was presented to Tim Arthur for being conscientious, responsible, and hard-working.  Savannah Beall and Ricardo Reeves received the Commitment to Learning award as students who does not merely expect to receive an education, but who actively participates in earning that education.  Finally, the 2023 Principal’s Award was presented to Miriam Toth-Fejel for her leadership, academic excellence, and character.

Academic awards are also presented in all subject areas. Kaitlyn Albanese received the Excellence in Visual Arts award.  Lily Abbott received the award for Excellence in Performing Arts.  Jordan Middleton earned the social studies award; Adrianna Morgan was recognized for excellence in English Language Arts.  The science, religion and math awards were presented to Kaitlyn Keyton, Zoey Greene, and John Richards, Jr., respectively.  Malika Ajwang received the Spanish award and the technology award recipient was Hayden Vess.  Monsignor Slade administrators, faculty, staff, and students could not be more proud of the Class of 2023!

Students surely reminisced over past years at Slade while singing “Awesome God” and “A Million Dreams”.  Father Austin’s homily reminded students that Jesus, their faith, and the values instilled in their time at Slade are always within them and that they always have a place in our community.  Families (including generations of alumni), faculty, and staff gathered following graduation for a celebratory reception hosted by seventh grade families.
